Precious Cargo

Emma is working with Renaissance Yorkshire to support the 15 Precious Cargo partners in evaluating their work effectively to demonstrate the individual, social and organisational impact of the programme. The work involves using and developing the MLA/Collections Trust evaluation framework developed specifically for the Stories of the World partners and ensuring that effective data collection methods are in place. As well as supporting partners with their own evaluation, Emma will be writing a series of case studies to demonstrate the impact of the projects and the partnership.

To develop this work further Emma has done training in using the Social Return on Investment methodology and will be using this to evaluate one of the partner projects, with a view to producing a full SROI report for assurance by the SROI Network. Social Return on Investment is an approach to evaluation that puts a financial value on important impacts identified by stakeholders that do not have market values.  It is attracting increasing interest from charities and social enterprises because it uses financal proxies to help them articulate the real value of their work. It is a rigorous and carefully managed methodology used across the public sector and supported by government.

Emma is also working with a group of young people to support them in developing their own creative evaluation of the project between now and March 2011. Following a successful startup meeting in October 2010, the group will be making visits to each others' venues and producing a film that gives their perspective on the successes and impacts of the project.
